❔: What’s your favorite indie bookstore?

For the longest time, I didn’t have one, but @bookbarsg has easily taken that spot. Granted, I’m a little biased because I know the store owner, but it’s a great place to discover and support more local authors.

The older I get and the more I learn about how publishing and bookselling works, the more determined I am to find indie bookstores that I can buy from. It’s more expensive than Amazon, for sure, but supporting them is something special I can afford to do from time to time.

So if you’re in Singapore and looking for a place that has books, food, and drinks (of the alcoholic and non-alcoholic kind), drop by BookBar and browse for a bit!

The vibes are great and the owner is always happy to share recommendations if you’re looking for something new.

❔: What are you currently reading/have you finished anything already?

I’m a little over 100 pages into The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose (not pictured). It’s a book I’ve been borrowing and re-borrowing from the library since I saw her hilarious video about how she dealt with a reviewer who EMAILED her the negative review right before Christmas.

The book itself is alright, a bit simple for my taste. A few things strike me as weird, but I’m waiting to see if the book can surprise me.

I’m hoping to finish it soon as I have to read a short story collection over the weekend for work. The rest of the month will be work reads unless I somehow have the ability to read something else for fun.

My brain is all over the place after getting back from my US trip. It was half work and half personal since I went to see my best friend in Maryland after wrapping things up in San Francisco. Flying home took over a day as I left the US on Monday evening and arrived in Singapore on Wednesday morning.

It’s taken my brain a bit to catch up with things since then.

I have pole class in the morning tomorrow and then I’m planning to be a loaf for the rest of the day. Sunday will be a really early morning for me and I’ll probably loaf after that too.

I think I need the weekend to reset everything so I can feel like I’m back in the rhythm of work again. It’s like I left my brain on the plane or something, things just aren’t quite clicking for me these couple of days.

This is how I learned that even when reading in public I look somewhat pissed off 🤣

While I was in San Francisco last week for a work trip, I took the opportunity to read outdoors in between interviewing people. The weather was so nice compared to Singapore, and I enjoyed every minute of me being outside with my book.

I’d do it more often here but I’d probably get eaten alive by mosquitoes before I melt from the sun and humidity.

Also get you a friend who not only doesn’t bat an eye when you say you’re using their water bottle to balance your phone for a selfie, but moves the bottle closer to you for better angles.
